Service Description

EMDR therapy is available both in-clinic and via online video conferencing, ensuring accessibility and convenience. What is EMDR? Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a specialised therapy designed to replicate the rapid eye movement (REM) process that occurs during sleep. REM is believed to help process difficult or distressing memories, enabling individuals to gradually come to terms with them. When people experience traumatic events, their brains may struggle to fully process what happened, leading to a sense of being "stuck" in the moment. This can result in vivid, distressing memories that replay repeatedly, causing significant emotional distress and interfering with daily life. During an EMDR session, you will be guided to move your eyes from side to side while recalling distressing events. This process helps the brain reprocess difficult memories and restore normal information processing. EMDR is not a talking therapy, so there is no obligation to discuss the memory in detail—although some individuals choose to. The goal is to reduce the emotional intensity of painful or disturbing memories. What is EMDR Used For? 📌 Trauma & PTSD – EMDR is widely recognised as an effective treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and trauma-related distress. 📌 Phobias & Anxiety – EMDR can help process fears and anxieties linked to past experiences. 📌 Emotional Healing – Supports individuals in processing distressing memories and reducing their emotional impact. Is EMDR Right for You? While EMDR is a well-researched and widely used therapy for trauma-related issues, it may not be suitable for all psychological difficulties. A thorough assessment by an EMDR practitioner will determine if it is the right approach for your needs. Who Should Book? EMDR is ideal for individuals experiencing distress from past traumatic events and looking for a structured, evidence-based approach to processing these experiences. Take a step towards healing. EMDR therapy can help you move forward with greater emotional resilience and wellbeing.
